Follow the checklist below to make sure your files are print ready.

The following products all print in spot color (Pantone™) PMS colors only, which means your artwork needs to be vector, and the best program to use for vetor output is Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, or Quark.
Photoshop will not give you the ability to print spot color at all. Photoshop files can be used to print anything in CMYK, Full Color. See below.

Letterhead
Envelopes
1-4 Spot color Pocket Folders (Full color folders, see below)
1-2 Color Business Cards

The following products all print in CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) 4 color process, a.k.a. Full Color.
Coop Business Cards
Coop Postcards
4cp Pocket Folders
Inkjet Posters
Banners
Promoplanes™
Brochures
Giclee Fine Art Prints

The following product prints in RGB.
Digital C Prints or Photoprints

Images: Before placing or embedding your artwork into any layout or illustration application, please make sure your images, photos, and raster graphics are saved in CMYK mode or grayscale mode, not RGB (they will not print correctly and it will cause our system to detect a problem and halt the production of your proofs and production of your job entirely). You will receive a message letting you know that your images need to be converted to CMYK mode.

Fonts: There are thousands of fonts and that means that there are an unlimited amount of potential font based problems, to make it simple, include a compressed folder with all the fonts you used in the project; ones used in Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark, InDesign, or any other popular graphics software programs. Send both screen and printer fonts for Type 1 fonts. Send the same format (Type 1, TrueType, OpenType) as used in the document. Send all the fonts used, including fonts in EPS graphics (or, convert fonts in graphics to outlines before placing in page layout application). By outlining the fonts in Illustrator or other EPS capable programs, you can outline your fonts which turns them into vector (or shaped) graphic elements as opposed to editable type. Since we are not in the business of editing copy, this should not cause any problems. If you want to leave your files in an editable format, make sure to include ALL the fonts used.

Page Layout: When using programs like Adobe Page Maker, InDesign or Quark XPress, make sure to include in a compressed packaged folder of all the elements that are used to create your layout; logos, images, photos, vector art, fonts, etc…this way when we open and decompress your files we can see everything that was used to create your project in one convenient concise folder.

File Size: If you feel that your files are too big to simply send over the internet, call us first, you may be surprised – OR use these tools to help you; www.stuffit.com (Mac Compression Software) or www.winzip.com (PC Compression Software). These programs will shrink or compress your files and make them smaller without compromising the integrity, quality or stability of your files included in the compressed, stuffed or zipped folder. Our file upload form can safely upload files up to 100mb. If you have a file bigger than 100 mb, please call us and we can walk you through uploading the exceedingly large file to our ftp server.

Illustration or Vector Art/Type: When you create vector art for your graphics and type you are ensured of good crisp printing. Vector art is the sharpest type of graphic format there is, there is no bitmapping or rasterizing that happens, in other words there is no fuzziness when you zoom in on your artwork, the integrity of the art or type is flexible and will scale to whatever size you choose, especially when printing large posters, banners, photo C prints or giclee prints.

Large Format File Preparation Tips

When blowing up images to large sizes from computer-generated image files, it is important to make sure the files were created in formats and resolutions that will assure quality results when printed.

There are three main issues to be aware of and if you’re careful, you’ll be amazed when you unfurl your product from the carton.

Resolution and File Formats
Resolution relates to how crisp your images will appear when scaled up to many times the size you’re viewing it at on your monitor (72 dpi) or the color laser hardcopy proof you printed to get design approval from your boss or client (300 dpi at 8.5” x 11” size).DPI stands for dots per inch, which harkens back to the world of offset printing where printed images are literally composed of CMYK dots that combine to form the illusion of a solid image on paper. Although computer images are defined by combinations of RGB pixels (rectangles instead of dots), the term DPI has carried over and is usually used to determine how many pixels are actually present in a computer image at any given size (e.g. 150 DPI at 30” x 40”).

Most large-format output devices are now capable of yielding output at resolutions of 300 DPI or higher at giant sizes, yielding very clear crisp results (have you seen billboards lately? Or been stuck in traffic next to a bus that is wrapped with adhesive vinyl panels advertising the incredibly sharp facial features of your favorite TV personalities?)

The formula for getting it right when going “grand” is actually pretty simple as long as you prepare your files properly in advance.

The good news is that there are certain file formats that don’t depend upon resolution to look great any size. These are called vector files.

Fonts and .eps logos are classic example of vector file formats.

Vector graphics can be stretched like rubber bands or blown up like blimps and they will still look sharp. That is because vector files, unlike their needy counterparts, bitmap files (which we will get to shortly), are defined by mathematical ratios, not a finite pre-determined number of pixels.

When preparing documents for large-format output, bitmap images require the most attention. If you create images in Photoshop, scan photos, or take photos with a digital camera, then you need to make sure those images possess enough resolution (DPI) to print properly at their final size. If you don’t, your poster or banner could look like some kind of horrible disaster at Lego Land!

For example, if you’re designing for a final size of 36” x 48” and you want to get your images to 300 DPI at that size, you can set your page up for 18” x 24” (25% scale) and import your bitmapped images at 1200 DPI and they will then blow up nicely to 300 DPI when scaled up 400% to 36” x 48”.

Note: Your intuition might tell you that 25% size of 36” x 48” is equal to 9” x 12”, when in actuality, 9” x 12” is equivalent to 1/8 the size of 36” x 48”. Your intuition wasn’t paying attention in math class, as scaling up is an exponential process! Okay, just look at the handy chart below and it will help you catch up on your geometry.

Designing at 25% of your final output size is a good way to help manage your file sizes, because bitmaps at full-resolution, full-size can be very cumbersome to work with.

By the way, for most poster and banner applications that are not especially complex, detailed, or subtle, 150 DPI at 100% will yield pretty good results. On the other hand, if you’re dealing with detailed and/or color critical imagery, 300 DPI at full-size is a better choice. If you’re designing something color critical at 25% size, you need to make sure your bitmap imports or Photoshop document are at 1,200 DPI.

When you’re dealing with REALLY BIG stuff, you can often get away with 150 DPI at full-size, simply because your final output will probably be viewed from a greater distance (“good from far, far from good”). In other words, it doesn’t matter if it looks a little grainy or jagged up-close, because your audience will be at a safe distance from the display (e.g. an arena or large event setting).

Color Management
The two main color models utilized in computer graphics are RGB (Red, Green & Blue) and CMYK (Cyan, Yellow, Magenta & Black). How your final output is printed or viewed determines the correct color system to choose when preparing your files. If you’re designing for digital or offset printing, or for that matter, any ink or toner-based printing device, you should be designing and proofing your images using CMYK. If you’re designing for a monitor screen or projector-based presentation, 35mm slide imaging, or a Digital C Print, you should work in RGB, as that is the native color model for those environments.

Note: Digital cameras produce images that are RGB, which is why they look accurate on your monitor (also RGB). If you’re taking digital camera images and putting them into a CMYK design, make sure you bring them into Photoshop (or any other image processing software) and convert them to CMYK first. That is also a good time to check the resolution (DPI) of those bitmapped images to make sure that they will look good when printed large.

Submitting Files for Printing
PrintPromotion.com supports native documents from most major graphics software packages (e.g. Illustrator, Photoshop, Quark, InDesign, Powerpoint). If you’re not sure about a file format, please feel free to call and ask.We also support exported files, such as .tiff, .eps, or high-resolution .jpg and .pdf files (again, feel free to call and ask).

If you’re using native file formats, make sure that you include any imports or fonts that are not imbedded in the files (e.g. use the “collect for output” command in Quark that automatically gathers up all of the support documents and fonts your file requires for it to output correctly).

When you’ve gathered everything together in one folder, compress the files into archives using stuff-it or .zip so that all the files are batched into one file that is significantly smaller in megabytes than the raw files would be. Smaller files upload faster and are easier to store and manage on both ends.

Thanks for trying PrintPromtion.com and we hope this quick little lesson in the basics has been helpful.

Once your proof is approved, the job will be in your hands after the production time required, which varies by product and is indicated on each product page, and the shipping time. The day of proof approval counts as day one of production if the proof is approved by the time indicated in the chart below. After you upload your files and submit your order, based on your proof selection, you will either receive a PDF soft proof within 24 hours or a hardcopy proof within 48 hours. Hardcopy proofs arrive via FedEx overnight. The one exception is hardcopy proofs for Giclee Fine Art prints, which require an additional 24 hours. After proof approval and the production time required, your job will ship and you will receive an email with a tracking number for your package.

Has there ever been a cozy little hole-in-the-wall restaurant that you like to think of as your own? You love the food, the owners know your name, and since the place is never very crowded, you are always entitled to your particular booth of preference. Other regulars also seem to have this same camaraderie with your eatery. Then one Saturday night you pull up to enjoy another great meal at your restaurant, when you realize the windows are dim, the interior is desolate, and a “For Sale” sign looms over the locked door.

Although this situation is unfortunate, it is quite common. Small business owners have a tendency to get so comfortable with their usual customers, and the daily process of maintaining their establishment, that advertising and branding fall by the wayside. Proprietors rationalize that they enjoy status as the local “mom and pop shop” and don’t want to handle a larger business. Big or small, every business likes to keep afloat, and that is near impossible without branding.

The point of having a business in the first place is to provide services for end users. In exchange, consumers will fund the means for more services and you will hopefully make a profit. In other words, this economical cycle is dependent on the customers. Therefore, as a small business owner your main goal is the bring in more customers.

Every business person has the luxury of having spent time on both sides of the cash register. As a customer you know you have numerous shopping options for the array of products you need and desire throughout your daily life. The merchant who gets your money will usually be the one who has best sold you on the combinations of factors which are important to you. Location, price, product quality, service, convenience, etc. are all possible determinants of your buying behavior. You will be affected by your past experiences. You may also be affected by the past experiences of those you trust. This is called word-of-mouth advertising. Overall, if you are unfamiliar with a business, or have heard negative remarks about a business through word-of-mouth, you probably will not trust that company.

Now let’s flip the coin. Say you own a hair salon. A woman comes in for her hair appointment explaining that she’s never had bangs but she wants to try them out. You cut her hair the way she asks and she ends up hating bangs on her face. In an emotional uproar, she rants to her friends and family, berating your hair salon. With a little bit of a domino effect, your hair salon could sink quickly.

Now apply that same unjust situation to your business. It could easily happen to you. In fact, it may be happening as I speak. This is why it is imperative to brand your business. The purpose of branding is to give your company a voice and an image that paints your business in a positive and desirable light. Custom promotional printing such as custom post card printing and brochure printing for example, will allow you to associate positive colors, images, words and feelings with the services of your company. Branding allows you to counteract any negative image that may be created over the years, so that you can reach and appeal to your potential customers.

The goal of branding is to get your company name everywhere, through corporate identity printing. Custom business cards for all your employers are a must. Investing in business card printing is a valuable endeavor. Let’s say you own a home remodeling business. you’re at a friends barbecue over the weekend and two couples happen to be discussing the remodeling they want done on their home. You engage them in conversation and give them your card. You just scored two potential jobs.

Branding helps you establish trust with potential customers. As I mentioned before, trust is an important factor in the buying decision. We want to buy products we trust, from sellers we trust. A recognizable and reputable company image will ensure more customers. This is especially true for product categories which satisfy sensitive needs, such as health products and self image products, as well as big ticket items. Banner printing services, such as indoor banner printing and outdoor banner printing, will allow you to place your company name and logo in areas highly trafficked by potential customers. This positive company reinforcement will hammer home the message so that the next time the customer needs a product you offer, your services are in top-of-mind awareness.

A distinct corporate identity will distinguish your business in the marketplace. It is very rare nowadays to have a business that stands completely alone in its industry. If you happen to own a business that solves a particular customer problem which no one else has ever solved, this is even more of a reason to brand your business! The people must be informed that they have this problem and that you have their solution. Most likely, though, you will have a slew of competitors offering the same type of products. If you do not establish a corporate identity to break through the clutter of the marketplace, your business will be disposable. There is a good chance you will lose customers. brand your business, and protect your clientele.

Basically, stationery is the simplest form of business communication there is. Business cards, letterhead, envelopes, announcement cards, etc. are all simple forms of printed communications, but when crafted poorly, these staples of a good business practice can really hurt you.

So, the pitfalls are;
Really cheap stationery printers - Because they will not put the craftmanship into the printing, trimming, packing, and paper choices that you will need.
Full Color Stationery only printers – Because they cannot offer you match color or spot color (Pantone®) PMS color inks to ensure a good color match througout your stationery set and beyond into other printing you may do like a sales kit. We offer PMS matching inks throughout our stationery lines and pocket folders as well.

We offer the traditional craftmanship that you need, quality paper choices from all the top brands like, Strathmore, Wausau, Neenah, Capital Bond and more. We offer you color choices of White, Bright White, Ultimate White, Ivory Baronial, Natural as well as a variety of recycled papers, like Neenah Environments.

We offer flat and raised letter printing in order to help you achieve the right look and feel that your business deserves.

The theme of the contest is “Clean Design” and contestants will be expected to conceptualize, design and create a postcard that will make the most impact, therefore attract the most “votes” and subsequently be chosen as one of our top ten designs. The top ten designs will then be displayed on our website, the vising public votes to determine the 3 finalists. At that time the panel of industry veterans choos the top 3 winners. The panel will consist of industry veterans, designers, advertising executives and others of interest.

In celebration of the renewed call from the highest levels of industry, government and of course, the grass roots concerns of community groups everywhere, we feel that the planning and design starts with the creative mind of the designer and continues with the use of best practices in the production of the printed piece: Including vegetable based inks, recycled materials and paper from better managed forests. (For more information on forest management go to FSC.org.)

As simple as it sounds, we believe that a significant first step in cutting print waste is to actually conceptualize and design printed media in an uncluttered direct way, so that the all important message is clear and concise upon first glance, therefore requiring less printing over time in order to get the message across more effectively.

Well, it has been quite an experience taking our business from phones, email and all the other typical business communications methods to a more streamlined and more customer oriented web application to sell our products and service our customers.

We started out getting a lot of traffic from our fellow “techies” out there, and quickly were found out by the freelance designers in the world. Next we were fortunate to work with many of the hardworking and very talented freelance and graphic designer firms all across the US, then we started getting inquiries and live jobs from corporate america, top clothing brands and non-profit groups, who of course were buying recycled paper based print jobs.

Who?
Ralph Lauren, Verdura Jewelers, US Helicopters, Silas Partners, a group of 17 doctors in Virginia, a Bio-Deisel company in California, Pentagon Software, a movie producer, Phoenix Marketing, UsedBicycleBuyer.com, Viacube, and not to mention AIGA.org/The United Nations, the non-profit group that is helping to build alliances and programs internationally for graphic designers.

What? Pocket folders, business stationery, many, many orders on recycled paper, brochures, envelopes, business cards, sell sheets, postcards, photo printing, giclee prints and many others.

We are very happy to have worked with such great organizations, brands and non-profit groups.

Thank you for all your support,

Mounting Photo prints behind Plexi, what is it and why do so many people want it?

Comments Closed

This is a special production method is used to glue the Photo, the production process. In this way the image is protected against scratching, dirt and premature aging. A unique way to preserve photographs and for the presentation of photographs in a museum or gallery environment.

People mainly want it because it looks great by adding a dimension to your photography based or digitally mastered graphic artwork and preserves the image at the same time. The mounting process to a thick material gives the appearance of a museum or shadow box.

While standard framing provides great flexibility, by choice of materials and colours of frame and overmat, to optimally match a picture to your home decor, face-mounting behind plexiglass (acrylic glass) is by far the most impressive way of presenting a photograph.

This technique has only recently gained wide acceptance among museums and art galleries. Mainly because it seems to add a third dimension to the two-dimensional image and provides a brilliance and intensity unobtainable by any standard framing.
Process Production technique:
The end product contains mainly three parts:

*A digitally printed photograph,

*A 100% clear adhesive

*1/4” piece of plexiglass or other acrylic glass.

This production technique involves a digital C print or a permanently elastic, smooth fusion of paper print and acrylic glass. By using a special adhesive, an airtight bond is created with no air bubbles, fixing the print with its front side to the back of UV-resistant acrylic glass or plexi-glass.

By directly gluing the front side of the photograph to the back of a sheet of plexiglass, any light reflections between the photograph and the glazing of an ordinary frame is eliminated, thus increasing image sharpness, contrast, and colour saturation.

When light penetrates the layer of acrylic glass, the light reflection on the print’s surface is completely different from the effect when a print is framed with a passe-partout and ordinary glass. With this unique production method the diffusion of light diminishes because of the homogenous quality of acrylic glass. As a result the colours seem sharper, more brilliant, more intense and more immediate.

The assembly of plexiglass, photograph and protective back layer is attached to a recessed aluminium frame which serves as a spacer between picture and wall, providing the impression of the photograph to be hanging in the air.

Although face-mounting provides a spectacular way of presenting photographs, it’s virtually not more expensive than “classic” framing using window mount and a good wooden or metal frame.
